Writing Resolutions 2013

              Fortitude.

            Perseverance.

          Determination.

I resolve to continue reaching out to writers and readers around the world –building  community around the love of literature.

And to temper my consumption of fried fish.

Because what we eat affects our ability to think and write –some things help and others hinder. For I have found feasting upon fried fish is a creative clogger!  No big surprise.  (My husband is an artisanal fisherman…)

Currently, I am in the final rewrite of a historical novel: Cut From The EarthA story of 18th century Portuguese tile and of love — defying gender and class — and the power of nature and love to guide and  heal.

* Please see my blog page Historical Novel for more information and to read an excerpt.

I vow to complete this book and do my best to find a literary agent to represent it in 2013.

Happy New Year writers and readers of the world!

Thank you for stopping by my blog and reading my Writing Resolution 2013 post and for the feedback on the working title of my novel: Cut From The Earth. The title evokes multiple subtle threads flowing within the main storyline, so, it works on many levels.

      Happy New Year!

  1. Nice resolution that certainly is achievable. Well wait…about eating the fish… I LOVE FISH, but okay, maybe we can enjoy it by balancing it out with other foods. Now let me take a peek at this novel in the works. Feels like a novel I might enjoy. Wishing you and yours all the best. – Rhonda… stopping in from the Blog Ball.

  2. Good luck with completing your book! Personally, I wouldn’t cut down on the fish. It’s supposed to be brain food. Maybe try broiling it instead of frying? 🙂 Have a Happy New Year!

    • Alison-

Likewise! And welcome to my blog– I aim to provide interesting, helpful, and insightful content. I am thrilled Cut From The Earth sounds like something you would like to read. The novel is very close to the next step of needing representation. Of course, I will keep interested readers/writers posted as it progresses on the path to publication.

Happy New Year & inspired writing!

  3. I love the use of the Portuguese tile as inspiration for a story. Such lively colors – as I am sure your story will be too.

    Fortitude. Perseverance. Determination.
Great words of wisdom for 2013. Have a successful year.

    • Elisabeth-

I am finding ̶ the world ̶ loves Portuguese tile as I do! This bodes well for the story…
And yes, I believe the novel is quite colorful—it has been written from a place of passion and soulful love of the topic and theme.

Thank you for visiting my blog and happy writing this New Year!

  4. Atphanie, thanks for stopping by on the blog hop. I’m so glad you introduced your page.
Your WIP sounds fascinating. And I love that you made tiles to be more in tune with the process. They are magnificent.
Good luck with finishing your WIP AND finding a literary agent for publication. I can’t wait for the final book so I can read it!

  5. Stephanie, Gook luck with finishing your novel. It sounds intriguing. I love your tiles too. When I moved to Kentucky 18 years ago, I left behind in Chicago,a lovely small condo with Portuguese tiles as a back-splash behind the sink in my kitchen. They were wonderful. I miss seeing them every morning to this day. And the fish… as someone else mentioned….. they are brain food, my dear : =)

    • Nancy,

Thank you for visiting my blog and I am happy to hear my historical novel Cut From The Earth intrigues you! And I completely know what you mean about Portuguese tile—once exposed to their beauty and earthly essence ̶ you long to be in their presence forever. My love of Portuguese tile began over 20 years ago, after a summer spent in the Algrave of Portugal. And now I am dedicating a good portion of my life to their story/history. I wish you the best in your move and transition and with your memoir.

Many Regards & Blessings in 2013!

  6. Hi Stephanie,

Love the book description! Historical fiction must be tough. The book I am working on is based in 1938 Istanbul, so I can imagine some of the difficulties you’ve run into. I love historical fiction and can’t wait to hear when you’ve completed your novel in 2013! Best of luck!

I’d love it if you’d like to visit my blog in the blog hop:

    Happy New Year!

    • Danyelle-

Happy New Year! And thank you for stopping by my blog. Writing Historical fiction actually seems natural to me. I like having historical facts and time period descriptions to work from and to help set scenes and character parameters. I love travel and traveling to the past is somehow enthralling and terribly exciting to me. I wish you the best with wrapping and polishing up writing projects this year. And happy traveling! I can’t wait to finish my novel and get researching and exploring for the next one! I am looking forward to being able to announce: “Cut From The Earth” is published and ready for readers! I’ll keep you posted.

Happy writing and polishing in 2013!
